CFRA
California Family Rights Act leave—eligibility, interference, job restoration, and retaliation.
In plain terms
CFRA is California’s family and medical leave law. Eligible employees who give proper notice may take protected leave for their own serious health condition, bonding with a new child, or caring for a covered family member with a serious health condition—subject to employer-size and tenure rules. Employers may violate CFRA by denying leave, interfering with its use, failing to restore someone to a comparable position, or retaliating for taking or requesting leave. CFRA overlaps with federal FMLA but is not identical in coverage and family definitions.
